ASCEND's first Acro Day is a day dedicated to the more acrobatic arts of Acro Yoga and Slacklining. The day starts with Acro Yoga workshops featuring more in-depth instruction from experienced coaches. Topics include Castaways and Washing Machines. The afternoon will see our community gathering outdoors at our local Westinghouse Park for a free jam. Acro Yoga practitioners and Slackliners of all levels will spend a few hours making connections, sharing skills and enjoying a vibrant community. The evening portion of the day will see us return to the gym for Slacklining workshops led by expert coaches. Workshop topics will include Slackline Yoga and Slackline Rigging for Long Lines. Register for one session, multiple workshops or just join us in the park. It will be a great day focusing on the acro arts!
11A–12:30P | Acro Yoga Castaways Workshop
All about Castaways! Castaways are a fun and dynamic intermediate Icarian skill where the base "pops" and catches the flyer. Check out this video for an example. Three instructors with experience in basing, flying and spotting will lead you through a progressive practice to improve your skills. As this is an intermediate skill there are some important pre-reqs that need to be adhered to before registration. All participants must be competent and confident with bird, 20 second reverse star and have some experience with pops. Join us for a fun and engaging workshop! 1-2:30P | Acro Yoga Washing Machines Workshop
All about Washing Machines! Washing Machines are a looping movement sequence that start and end in the same pose but feature fun and dynamic transitions. Check out this video for examples . Four instructors with experience in all levels of washing machines will lead the workshop and support your progressive practice. This is an all levels workshop where the movements and skills can be adapted to meet the needs of beginners, intermediate and advanced participants. Join us for a fun and educational workshop experience! 3-5P | Acro Day Jam at Westinghouse Park
This free outdoor jam session takes place in the middle of ASCEND's Acro Day activities. We will gather at Westinghouse Park, just a few short blocks away for an open and informal jam featuring your acro yoga and slacklining. This jam is open to all levels and abilities. It's a great chance to explore new interests and meet new people or to level up your skills and deepen your relationships within the community. This jam will allow the mid-day acro yoga workshop participants to further practice their skills as well as allowing the folks participating in the evening slacklining workshops to warm up and connect. Check out these workshops and register for them on our website. Free parking is available at the gym as the park is a short walk away. This event is led organically by the acro yoga and slacklining communities and is not a structured ASCEND event. That means all choices regarding participation, weather, interactions and more are yours to consider and be responsible for. The gym may be used as a back up gathering place in case of inclement weather. If this occurs all indoor participants will be required to have a valid (and free) ASCEND waiver on file in order to participate. Join us for a great time exploring your favorite activities while connecting with great people all in a natural outdoor setting.
5-6:30P | Slackline Yoga Workshop
All about slackline yoga! Slackline yoga is the practice of applying yoga poses to the slackline. This class is great for all levels of slackliners. Beginners who are still working on walking the line will be able to learn and practice basic poses that will increase their feel for the line, improve their balance and be a lot of fun. More intermediate and advanced slackliners who can already walk the line can use these yoga poses to expand their balancing skills, find new areas for practice and progression and challenge themselves in new ways. Check out this video for some examples. These slackline yoga poses will be a great addition to your current slackline practice as you build your balance, strength and feel. Join us before the workshop for a free jam in the park to warm up, connect with great people and learn something new. Don't forget to check out the other workshops throughout the day. 6:30-8P | Slackline Rigging for Long Lines Workshop
All about rigging long slacklines! If you are a slackliner who wants to expand your skills to include being able to rig long lines then this workshop will be perfect for you. Long lines are a fun and engaging style of slacklining where the focus is walking or surfing a longer line generally with more give and movement to the line. An experienced coach will go over all the gear, knowledge and techniques needed to rig long lines of your own. Be sure to join us earlier for a free jam in the park to experience different slacklines, connect with great people and learn something new. Don't forget to check out the other workshops throughout the day. Should be a great way to expand your balance practice!
